Pooja, 30, had won her first gold in Asian boxing in 2019 in the 81kg category.

The Indian contingent has already secured its best show by winning an unprecedented 15 medals so far.

Indian boxer Pooja Rani repeated her gold medal-winning performance at the Asian Elite Boxing Championships on Sunday by beating Mavluda Movlonova in the women's 75kg final in Dubai.

Pooja, who has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, did light work with her opponent from Uzbekistan and won by unanimous decision 5-0 to secure India's first gold medal at this edition of the Asian Championships. She was given a walkover in the semifinals.

Pooja had won her first gold in Asian boxing in 2019 at the 81kg event, but she was unable to repeat that performance last year as the competition did not take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. She had also taken bronze in 2015 and silver in 2012 at the Asian Boxing Championship in the middleweight category.

Pooja's result came just a couple of hours after boxing legend MC Mary Kom lost her 51kg final to settle for the silver medal. Lalbuatsaihi also settled for a silver medal at the Asian Championships after losing a close 64kg women's final to Milana Safronova of Kazakhstan via split decision (2-3).

The Indian contingent has already secured their best show by scoring an unprecedented 15 medals and surpassing the previous record of 13 medals (2 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze).

Eight Indian fighters, Simranjit Kaur (60 kg), Vikas Krishan (69 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69 kg), Jaismine (57 kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (64 kg), Monika (48 kg), Saweety (81 kg) and Varinder Singh (60 kg) secured bronze medals with his semi-final in the event.

This year's Asian Boxing Championship had to move from Delhi to the Middle East due to the Covid-19 crisis in India.
